Say It Aint Sunday!

Sunday already.  Hum bug!  I don't know about you all but Sunday is the day I spend dreading Monday!  Especially this Sunday because I am coming down with a cold or something.
I cancelled my ukulele lesson this morning and stayed in bed til one!
I eventually dragged myself out of bed so I could make this dress for Bliss.  I also attempted an apron but quickly got fed up.  I'll wait til I'm feeling better to attempt something new.  :)

I had a few half off coupons for Jo-Ann's fabric store, so I decided to finally break down and get one of these thread organizers!  No more digging through a basket to find the thread I need!  :)

Zoe spent some time snuggling with me this morning.  She's such a sweet dog.  It's funny that we have this amazing bond because when she first came into my life I honestly didn't know if "we" were going to work.  She was destructive (tore open a brand new couch...I came home to "snow" all over the living room), had horrible separation anxiety, and was not house trained even though she was 9 months old when she came to live with me!  On top of all that she had obviously been abused at some point in her life.  She was very skittish and if you made any sudden moves she would tuck her tail and cower.  It was pathetic and so sad.
We stuck it out through the rocky times and now over 8 years later we are perfect for each other!  I can tell you one thing though...I will never have another puppy or young dog.  They have way too much energy for me.  From here on out, it's senior dogs for me!  :)

My beautiful problem child, Spike.  He started out his life as a purrfect little kitty.  Recently he has become extremely picky about his litter box.  If it isn't fresh (meaning just changed), he will show his displeasure by using the floor instead!  Good thing I love him!!!

One of my spoils from my thrifting adventures yesterday.  Sketchers boots...they are a lovely autumn inspired corduroy fabric and lined with plush black fur (not animal fur...think teddy bear fur...haha).  Very comfy!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Week In Review

Another weekend is finally here!  Sigh of relief!  :)  This week has been a bit crazy.  On Wednesday, my drivers side window decided that it wasn't going to roll back up.  Not good...especially since it's been raining for days!  The other bad thing is that Subaru's don't have the frame around the window like most cars.  So taping plastic over it is impossible (unless you choose not to use the door).  Which is what I had to do!  Getting in and out of the passenger side was not fun (and definitely not a pretty sight)!  :)
I took Stella (my car) in to the shop today.  They managed to get the window back up and they are ordering the part to fix the problem.  Whew!  The good news is that I went to a new shop (thanks to the advice of a friend).  They charged me half of what my regular shop was going to!  Yay for a bargain.

After my super early appointment this morning, I headed over to my favorite thrift store.  I came away with 2 sweaters, a pretty t-shirt, a comfy pair of sweats, a few shirts for my Mom, some socks, a purse, pillow shams, vintage sheets, and a super awesome vintage cooking pot!

After that I made a (not so) quick stop at the fabric store.  I found so many cute prints that I just had to take home.  ;)
I also bought the fabric for my bridesmaids dresses.  Kind of had to, as I just found out they are discontinuing it!

Here are some pictures from my week...

1.  Ukulele Practice!

2.  Comforting Potato Soup and Butter Dips.

3.  My baby Picard.

4.  My old man cat Tibet.

5.  Yummy Pizza!

6.  Baby Sheldon (he's growing up!  look at that chunky tummy!)

7.  Took pics of my latest fabric banner...for the shop.

8.  Baking bread (and rolls...and banana bread...and pizza dough)!

9.  The Peace Tree (found on a hike).

Hope you have a lovely weekend!!!  Happy Autumn!

Treehugger Dress

Happy Sunday folks!  How has your weekend been?
I kind of wasted my Saturday.  I woke up super early and an hour later fell back to sleep and stayed that way until 11:30!

Today has been a bit better.  I set my alarm so I wouldn't sleep the day away again!  I woke with the need to sew Bliss got another dress:

Big improvement over my last dress.  I think I've mastered the art of a tiny  This material is so awesome...I love wood grain and to find it at the fabric store made me so happy!

I'm thinking of embroidering a heart with an arrow through it or something like that on this dress.  ;)

So my cell phone bit the dust recently (boo)...but now I'm an iphone owner (woo hoo)!  I'm really enjoying getting to know my new phone.  I love love love all the apps!

I also found the perfect iphone cover at ExpressoPrint!  I'm so ordering this next week!

Peace!  ;)

Simple Beauty

Yesterday was such a pretty day!  The twins and I played at the park for hours.  I love love love the color of this weed/flower (not sure what it is, but it is beautiful)!

The sky was the most amazing deep blue!  So pretty.

Not sure what today has in store.  I had to drop the kittens off at the vet this morning.  Some of those forms they make you sign are pretty scary!  I had to give permission for them to perform CPR or even open chest CPR if needed.  Yikes!  Fingers crossed my babies will come through without incident.

Have a lovely day, friends!  :)

Oh brother!

Meet my new back up sewing machine!  I'm just using her til the Singer is repaired.  I tried her out by making a couple of baby bibs for my shop.  It feels good to sew again!

Yesterday I came home to find the loveliest package waiting for me from Miss Cameron over at Paint Myself Pretty.  It was the Mermaid Swap!
I made myself wait to open it as a reward for getting my housework done.  :)
When I finally did, I found so many cute treasures!

I adore this painting entitled "Best Friends".  The dolphins happy little face makes my heart smile!  :)  Cameron is just the nicest, most talented lady around.  You should definitely check out her super cute Etsy store!

I've been really enjoying this cooler weekend.  With temps in the low 70's during the day, I have really been given a lovely preview of autumn.  My favorite time of year!  There's nothing like throwing  open the windows and letting the cool breeze fill your home with the scent of crisp autumn leaves and late night bonfires while you cuddle under a vintage quilt with your favorite purry cat!

My urge to bake increases as the weather cools.  Last night I had a craving for chocolate chip cookies.  I whipped out all my supplies only to find my Ener-G egg replacer had a pantry moth in it.  Yuck!  So online I went to track down a vegan cookie recipe that didn't call for egg replacer.  I'm typically leary of random internet recipes this one had tons of positive reviews so I thought it was worth a shot.

Instead of using egg replacer, the recipe called for flax seed!  I love it!  So not only do you get to chow down on yummy cookies but you also get a nice dose of omega-3's!

I'm feeling a little bit disappointed with this weekend for one reason only.  My super awesome vintage Singer decided to stop working!!!  Something's up with the self winding's not winding. Bah! I had several projects I needed to work on and obviously that's not going to happen.  I did however find a Singer repair shop downtown...although they aren't open so I have to wait!  I'm seriously thinking about buying a new machine to use as my back up now and in future incidents like this.  Although I dislike the thought of sewing on a modern machine (my Singer Futura II rocks like it's no one's business) I just can't stand to be sewing machine-less for who knows how long!

See?  Even Picard loves the Singer!  ;)

Last week I found the tiniest little wooly bear caterpillar in my yard!  He was a shy guy...curled up in a defensive ball for the longest time before he finally felt comfortable enough to start crawling on me!  I've loved these cute little caterpillars ever since I was a small girl.  :)  I remember sneaking them into the house where I would have a caterpillar  circus (wooly bears are the best jump rope tight rope walkers)!  :)

I'm currently lusting after these vintage wicker plant stands.  I want one sooooo bad!  My great grandmother used to have one that sat on her porch so many years ago.  I don't know why but I just always loved it!  She had a green thumb so it was always full of lovely plants spilling over the edges.  I don't have a covered porch like she did (lucky Mimi with her wrap around covered porch and porch swings!) so I want to use mine in my bedroom underneath the window!

Remember these babies?  Sunshine and Picard:

They are growing up way too fast!

They have an appt this week for their spay and neuter surgeries.  Poor little kids!!!  :(

Hope you all have an awesome Sunday!

Mermaid Swap

I participated in Cameron's mermaid swap over at Paint Myself Pretty.  What a fun idea!
I decided to make her some embroidered pillowcases!

I packaged it all up and included a silly little cut-out with a corny poem!  ;)

I'm so excited to see what Ms. Cameron sends me!  :)

Big News

Happy Labor Day!
I've been enjoying my 3 day weekend!  Saturday, I came across this bit of silliness at the store.  I can't imagine that it actually works...but boy if it did, I'd be the happiest cat Mom ever!  ;)

I visited one of my favorite antique malls today.  I spent a few minutes chatting with the lady who owns the booth where I purchase most of my vintage linens.  She gave me a huge discount on this lovely piece of embroidery!  I'm so happy with it.  Now I just need to find a frame to fit!

My happy find of the day was this quilt!  It's in need of a few repairs but I got it for $10!!!  Hello bargain!  I've seen cutter quilts  in MUCH worse shape for way more money.  So score!

I finally snapped up this vintage metal clothes hamper!  I've had my eye on it for the better part of a year.  This time it was on sale...marked down to $7!

Happy sunflower...other than the daisy, this is my fave flower!

I met P in Hocking Hills today for antiquing, a picnic, and hiking.  We headed down to see Cedar Falls (which is a beautiful waterfall if there's actually been enough rain).  On the way down the rather rugged path we stopped on top of this huge rock and took in the view below us.  And then P proposed!

It wasn't a surprise, we've been discussing the possibility of tying the knot for a few months now.  So it is now official and I can finally share it with you all!

For now, we are using this ring (it was his mother's engagement ring and came all the way from Thailand).  Very pretty!!

This is the engagement ring and wedding band that we are having custom made by Bandscapes on Etsy.

This ring is so totally me. I love the detail!  I love that it will remind me of trees every time I look at it (I'm a real life tree hugger, folks!).

Insert Catchy Title Here

Bliss got a bit of a makeover this week!  Notice anything different?

She's gone blonde!!!  Not permanently, it's just a wig.  She just kept hearing that blondes have more fun and wanted to test that theory!

She also felt that it was time to add to her wardrobe.  So it was up to me to either empty my wallet or attempt making her something.  So I put the patterns I purchased last week to good use.  I'm not typically a pattern type of gal (I prefer to wing it) but I thought I'd give it a go!  Here it is:

Not too shabby for my first try.  The bodice is lined and it snaps in the back!  I made a few little mistakes but they were easily concealed with the addition of the funky belt!  Practice makes perfect...I'll keep at it until I rock these dresses.  ;)

I love the color and flower print!  I went a little crazy at the fabric store yesterday.  I just couldn't help myself...I was like a kid in a candy store!  Fabric is my downfall.  :)  Bliss doesn't mind...she knows she will reap the benefits!

So I started my ukulele lessons last Sunday.  I'm a complete novice when it comes to music.  Never had lessons as a kid or anything like that.  I have no clue on how to read music.  So totally starting from scratch!  The first lesson was mainly just talking with my instructor.  He showed me a few things and told me to review during the week. Which I have...about 30 to 45 minutes each night.  I'm still feeling really clueless about a lot.  Hopefully after tomorrows lesson, it will be better!
I simply adore my little uke case!

Enjoy your long weekend (if you are lucky enough to get one)!  :)  I know I will!!!
