April:  This was a MIA kind of month for me.  I only made one post the entire time!  I had a lot on my plate...

May:  I made friends with a snake!

June:  I said goodbye to my sweet kitty Camille and welcomed three new kittens into my home...

July:  Amish country with my family!

September:  I have two favorite posts for this month!
I started taking ukulele lessons!

Wedding Decisions...

June will be here before I know it!  I can't believe how time flies when you are trying to plan a wedding.
I think my main problem is indecisiveness.  I see so many great things that I want to incorporate into my wedding and I have a tough time narrowing it down!   I haven't even made a final decision on my invitations.  Actually months ago, I ordered a template from an artist on Etsy but then P and I changed our venue...so back to the drawing board.  Lol.  Now I no longer want my original choice (too bad...it would've been so easy to contact the artist and just order it again...with the changed local)!  I made another choice with a cute little owl on it...but now I'm thinking it might be more economical to just purchase the invitations ready made as opposed to doing it myself (with the help of Kinkos)!

My big decisions (dress, venue, cake, musician, etc) are already made thank goodness.  I should be happy with that! :)

I came across these super cute cake/cupcake toppers on Etsy.  I can't believe the adorableness!  I'm actually considering ordering the 2nd picture down (the owls).  I love that it's crafty and handmade and NON TRADITIONAL.  I really am not a huge fan of weddings...all the solemn ceremonies...it bores me to tears.  That's why I'm hoping to make mine as much fun a possible!

Handmade?  Yes!
Kitschy?  Yes!!
Fun?  Yes!!!

We're getting married at a castle.  I know you're thinking "trite fairytale wedding", right?
Wrong!  It's actually taking place outside in a wooded clearing.  Nature is so important to both of us, it only makes sense to tie the knot outside.

My dress arrived this week!  After waiting over 2 months for it, needless to say I was pretty excited.  I tried it on and did not want to take it off!  :)
The great thing about this dress is that I will actually wear it again...and again...and again.  It's the perfect festival dress!  :)

Week In Review

Everything's always hectic this time of year, isn't it? I've been trying to slow down and take it easy the past few days because I've come down with a nasty cold. I spent most of yesterday in bed, indulging in a movie marathon in between naps and embroidering!

Check out this festive '70's bedspread I found at the thrift store. It's a Bates bedspread, which apparently has quite the history. I love the retro colors and the fabulous texture!

I got that lovely little owl ornament from my dear friend Cameron, over at Paint Myself Pretty. What a wonderful gift! I know I will cherish it and think of her every year when I put it on my tree.

Zoe got a new-to-her dog bed from the thrift store. I love the skeleton pattern...it's very 'Day Of The Dead' looking. Zoe actually looks a little frightened of her new bed, doesn't she?!! Lol.

I finished the pinup girl pillowcase set! They are for sale in my Etsy shop!

Persephone loves spending one on one time with me in my bedroom. She gets so excited when I let her come in (my bedroom is usually a cat free zone). She's just too sweet to deny! :)

We got snow! I'm not a big fan. I enjoy it if I don't have to drive in it...but that rarely happens. So typically I spend the entire winter dreading the white stuff!

I made some interesting ornaments this week. You blow up a balloon and then wrap glue soaked yarn around it. Sprinkle with glitter and allow to dry. The next day you pop the balloon and pull it out..,leaving you with a delicate sparkly ornament. Fun to do with kids but oh so messy!! ;)

I finally finished my BFF's gift! We agreed to make one embroidered gift to go along with our regular store bought gifts. I chose to make this Ryan Berkley cat wearing her Sunday best! I love how she turned out! Here's hoping my BFF doesn't see this blog post before tomorrow!! ;).

Happy Holidays!

Day To Day...

It's been a long couple of days.  Funny how when you are super busy, you crave down time and when you have down time, you crave something to keep you busy.  Or is that just me?  :)
I've been doing my best to stay occupied.  I finally got my vintage typewriter out of storage and made a place for it on my adorable little teal bookshelf.  It makes me happy every time I see it!

This is Lola's chair.  She has claimed it.  She sits on it, sleeps on it, lounges on it.  No one else may sit there (except occasionally she'll share it with a cat or two)!

Picard is growing up!  No more tiny kitten!  :(
He's a super sweet boy although I think he's part vampire.  He chews on my fingers to the point of hurting me.  Little weirdo!

I had to relocate my mantel.  It used to sit over the gas heater  in my living room.  But I noticed that it was super heating up the wood and it even singed the pine bough.  So I figured better safe than sorry!  So now it's sitting on the opposite wall.  Right now I just have a framed picture propped up where the fire would be (if this were an actual mantel/fireplace).  I'm thinking of getting one of those vintage non functioning heaters and filling it with lights (as seen in the second picture down).  Or possibly buying a piece of wood and painting it with chalkboard paint.  Then you can draw a fire (or anything else that strikes your fancy) and insert it into the space.  Decisions, decisions!

Notice my cute little stocking I made for the fur kids?  Upcycled from one of my old sweaters!  I've got to make some of these for the shop for next Christmas!

I made a vegan lasagna last night for dinner.  It's got basil tofu "ricotta" and tons of broccoli.  Also homemade marinara.  Next time I will make a double batch of the sauce, as it was a bit dry.  Despite that, it was still yumtastic!

I finished one of my latest embroidered pillowcases.  The pinup girl!  I'm about halfway done with the matching case.  Thankfully, these aren't taking as long as the deer ones!  :)

How did you keep busy this weekend?

Such A Deer!

I'm finally finished!  It took a little over 20 hours spread out over a month or so...but I'm finally done!  Phew!  :)
These pillowcases were my Mount Everest.

Now available in my Etsy shop:

Kokeshi Dolls

My sisters birthday is fast approaching and I knew just what I wanted to make her! To celebrate her new life in Japan, I stitched up some super cute (and useful) dish towels! The pattern, which comes from Sublime Stitching, is entitled Kokeshi Dolls. These are styled after traditional Japanese wood dolls. Cute, aren't they?

THE Dress!

I debated about sharing my dress here, but I'm just too excited not to! :).

This is not a traditional wedding gown by any means, but it completely suits me and my laid back style. The wedding has a definite hippie vibe so this dress will fit in nicely.

I ordered it from a lovely girl
named Anna. She has an Etsy
shop called cutrag. It's custom made and she just finished it! I can't wait to try it on! :).

I've been super busy calling vendors this week. I finally found a florist who actually seems to want my business. I've had the worst luck with ministers and florists not returning messages. Unreal.

Just a little over six months to the big day!

Sew What?

Rain, rain go away!
:)
I don't mind the rain, honest.  As long as I can stay snug indoors (and dry)!  I'm very cat-like when it comes to rain.
Speaking of cats, do you remember Romeo?  He's a stray that's been hanging around for years.  Recently he finally let me pet him! Now he's my buddy.  I feed him, love him, and occasionally even bring him indoors.  Today was one of those days.  When he saw me emerge from the house this morning, he came rushing out from under my car.  As soon as he felt the rain on his back, back under the car he went!  I scooped him up and brought him indoors.  He's not a big fan of being inside but he tolerates it for short periods.
Such a sweetheart.  He gives me kitty hugs when I hold him.  He puts one paw on each side of my neck and nuzzles me.  I just love him so!

I've been taking advantage of this rainy day by staying in for as long as possible and crafting.  I must admit, it was a rocky start!  I messed up two Blythe dresses before I finally got this one right.  I've made so many of these dresses that it should be second nature to whip one out perfectly.  Weird!
Oh well, I think this one is cute!

Last night, I made  another stuffed animal.  This one is definitely an owl.  No crazy hybrids here!  ;)

Meet Woody!

Happy Sunday!

Thoughts

Hello all!  Hope you're having a lovely weekend!  Today I am spending some time with one of the families that I used to nanny for.  It will be a kick to see how much the kids have grown!  I'm hoping my little guy still remembers me!  I loved him as if he were my own.  Being a nanny has plenty of positives but one huge negative, and that's when you leave them for good.  :(
Thankfully, I've been lucky enough to stay in touch with most of the families that I have worked with.
Another plus about this visit?  She's making Indian food!  Oh, how I've missed her cooking.  Thanks to my time with her, I picked up many recipes and techniques that I now employ in my own kitchen.  Still, hers are the best!  :)

I'm having a bit of a "down" day.  Seems like everything has been going wrong today.  I'm trying not to let it get to me but that's easier said than done!  Hopefully seeing the kids will pull me out of this funk.

So I made a little creature a few days ago.  She started out as a skunk but I think she actually looks more cat like now.  Maybe a skunk/cat hybrid?  A "skat" (haha)?  Or a "cunk"?  I'm not good at this game.
What do you think?  Skunk?  Cat? A mythological forest creature?  ;)

One last thing before I go!  My friend Cameron over at Paint Myself Pretty is having an awesome giveaway.  The lucky winner will get 50% off something in her Etsy shop.  Check it out here!
Good luck!  :)
