Camping Fun!

Ashley and I headed off to a camping retreat in Illinois last week.  I was really excited since I had been collecting tons of new camping gear over the past year.  The tent was amazing.   I can't believe the size of it!  We had more than enough space with plenty of room leftover for hosting impromptu parties!  It rained EVERY SINGLE DAY so I was extra glad for the spaciousness.

We got to soak up the atmosphere at several concerts, including Spiral Rhythm!

I got a lovely henna tattoo!

We visited the fairy shrine....

and even left some offerings of our own!

Here are some more offerings that other people left...

I taught a Goddess Doll workshop at camp.  Over twenty people showed up to make one.  I was really impressed at all the unique dolls they made.  These two are mine!

I bought lots of fun stuff to bring home with this bumper sticker!

The trip there only took us 7 hours but the trip back took over 11!  We really took our time!

Ashley and I both got one of these adorable feather charms at camp.

I really fell for this cute ring!

These saw lots of these on the way back.

I can't wait to burn my Sweet Grass and smudge the house!

Hope you all had a great week!

Vacation time is finally here!  I'm going on a week long camping retreat.  :)  I love camping...falling asleep to the sound of outdoors...campfires at night.  :)

Ashley and I have about a 6-7 hour drive to reach our destination.  Whenever I go on long car rides, I like to keep my eye out for festive bumper stickers.  Like these:
I will be absent from Blogger for a week or so.  I'll miss you all so much!  Until then,

I'm so excited to participate in Janel's 30 Day Journal Challenge!  I did this last year and had such a great time with it.  I'm starting the challenge nearly two weeks late (gasp) but that's ok!  :)

You can check out some of my entries from last year here!

Stars In My Eyes And In My Drink

It seems like we're finally getting our Spring in the middle of June!  I'm loving these low 70 degree days!  I haven't had to turn on my a/c all week!  Nice.  I love being able to throw the windows open wide and watch as the breeze gently stirs the curtains, filling my home with a fresh scent.
I've been taking it easy this week.  Only doing as much as I feel like doing and not a bit more.  It's nice to live like that although I battle with feelings of guilt when I do.  My inner voice is always telling me to do the dishes or run some errands.  Sometimes you just have to tell that voice to be quiet!

I'm preparing for my week long camping retreat.  I'm so excited to be going this year.  I missed it last year so I'm extra excited this time around!  Preparing for a week of living outdoors is quite exhausting (but totally worth it)!  I will be absent from Blogger for ten whole days!  When I come back I will have plenty of lovely pictures to share.  :)

Fabric Fun

I'm going on a week long camping retreat soon and I wanted to do something to make my campsite a little more festive.  Last night I sat down with various fabrics and made this cute banner!  I plan on stringing it around my EZ UP shelter.

Here's a close up of the three different fabrics I used.  I had a great time breaking in my first pair of pinking shears!  :)

After that I went out to the garden and harvested some lovely leaf lettuce!  I had to battle the ants and a few other creepy crawlies but in the end, I won!  ;)

This morning I woke up in the mood to cook.  So I got out the waffle iron and Vegan With A Vengeance and made these yummy lemon corn waffles with blueberry sauce.  All I can say is YUM!

I actually sat at the table for the first time in years!  It was quite enjoyable.  Of course Gabriel thought he should be allowed to lounge on the other end while I ate my breakfast.  Silly cat!
I was reading some random decorating book while I enjoyed my food and for some reason I just started crying.  No reason at all...just something I read in the book about how the home you live in and raise your family in, should be your dream home because it's been through all your ups and downs with you.  Sentimental stuff and it totally set me off!  Sometimes being a hormonal girl is pretty funny...

Yesterday was World Wide Knit In Public Day.  I celebrated by meeting up with with a friend for knitting in a coffee shop.  I got quite a bit accomplished on my silly scarf!

Afterwards, we headed out to grab a bite to eat.  On the way we stopped in a vintage shop.  I convinced the owner to sell my this cute little pillow, even though it wasn't for sale!

My sister arrived for a quick visit today.  She got me this cute little notepad from Japan.  While she was on her honeymoon they visited
Wakayama Electric Railway and saw Tama, the famous

stationmaster cat!

This guy might not be famous, but I love him anyway!  Gabriel says hello to all my lovely readers!  :)

Another Day...

My sister got back from her Honeymoon in Japan this week.  She sent me this cute postcard while she was there!  I get to see her for the first time since the wedding on Sunday.  She's bringing me a souvenir...gotta say I'm pretty excited to see what it is!  :)
You can also see the scarf I'm working on...I love the's made from bamboo!

This adorable macrame owl started his life back in the 70's as a necklace.  I find him a bit too large for my jewelry tastes so he's enjoying a second life hanging on my rearview mirror.  He "hippies" up my car!  :)

This is the formica topped table that my Mom gave me.  I loved this table from the first moment I laid eyes on it.  It's a light gray and has brightly colored flowers all over.  When she first bought it, it came with 4 festive chairs.  Over the years, the chairs eventually gave out (guess we were too hard on them).  So I'm making do with some cute little teal plastic chairs for now.  I'm so excited to have this table!  Maybe now I will actually use my breakfast nook.  Or maybe not.  Being single, I find it weird to sit down at a table for meals.  I usually eat in the living room while watching a movie or reading a book.  My dirty little secret!  ;)  Do any of you single gals actually use your table for eating?

Here are those darling canisters I picked up last time I went to my hometown for a visit.  I'm not actually using them to hold anything though.  They aren't airtight so the naughty little ant invaders would totally get in!

I love having a window above the kitchen sink.  Until I moved here, I never had this.  It definitely makes doing dishes a little easier to take!

This happy guy smiles down on me every day!

I finally got off my bum and started cleaning my house today!  I don't know why I get into these weird funks where I don't want to clean or cook or even do crafts!  One of my little tricks is to set a timer for ten minutes and just start cleaning (I think this comes from the Fly Lady book but I'm not sure).  Usually by the time those ten minutes have passed, I find myself in the mood to do more.  It's not totally foolproof but it works for me more often than not.  :)

Couch Potato

Every feel really unmotivated and lazy?  That's me this week! All I want to do is sit in front of the tv watching True Blood and Big Love.  Yesterday I finally picked up my knitting needles while I was watching tv so that I would be semi-productive.
Maybe I'm taking after my lethargic cats?

I did manage to stop by the thrift store.  Sometimes you find many treasures, sometimes you're lucky if you find just one.  I got this huge bowl for just a couple bucks.  I'm starting to think I have a mixing bowl obsession.  ;)

What do you all do to combat laziness?

Rainy Days...

I love rain.  Especially the rain that comes from nowhere.  One minute, I was out enjoying the sunshine and the next it was raining and hailing!  I retreated to my living room (but not before getting hit with hail!) and snapped a few pics!

I finally decided what to make with my freshly picked strawberries:  strawberry freezer jam!  After a quick stop at the store for some pectin, I was ready!

I assembled the ingredients (freezer jars, sugar, berries, and pectin).

Washed the berries thoroughly!

Smashed the strawberries...that was the fun part!!!  :)

Mixed the sugar and pectin and then added the strawberries and stirred for 3 minutes.

Then I poured the mixture in the freezer jars and let sit (and thicken) for 30 minutes before freezing!

I made freezer jam last year (on a much larger scale) and I couldn't believe how good it was!  It's so nice to have fresh tasting jam in the middle of winter.  I really like to use mine on homemade vegan english muffins!

Busy Bee!

Yesterday was a very busy day.  I was in full on project mode.  I started my day by finally putting my strawberry pot to good use.

I assembled a collection of various herbs including rosemary, chocolate mint, tri color sage, mother of thyme, and lemon balm.

Here's the completed pot.  This was my first time using a strawberry pot and I had some difficulties.  Most of my plants were too big for the tiny holes on the side.  I had to seperate the mint and lemon balms just to get them to fit.  I'm hoping that after my manhandling, they all survive!

There wasn't room for the sage so I put it in it's own pot.  Probably a good idea since sage tends to grow pretty large.

After that I took advantage of a friend's offer to pick strawberries at her house.  These berries are so delicious!  I want to make something but at this rate I will have them all eaten within a day or two!  Thanks Megan!

Last night I was in a crafty mood.  So I whipped out the items needed to make a dreamcatcher.

First I used ribbon to make a star shape in the center of the grapevine wreath.  I also strung a few wooden beads to fancy things up a bit.

Finished up by hot gluing some festive feathers and added some dangling beads and a feather at the bottom.

Not a traditional looking dreamcatcher, but I like it and that's what counts!  :)
