Make a Fashion Scarf!

I was browsing around Barnes and Noble last weekend and I came across a book (sorry I don't remember the name) with this idea in it.  Pick a t-shirt that you don't particularly care for and cut it straight across (under the arms).

Cut a fringe starting at the already cut edge.  Make it as long or short as you like.

Now you have a simple and cheap scarf!!

Let's Do Lunch!

I'm such a huge fan of lunch related paraphernalia.  I jumped on the laptop lunch box bandwagon and then I progressed to the oh so cute bento boxes and accessories.  Now I've discovered these wonderful EZ Freeze Stayfit containers.  The nice thing about these is that you can pop the lids in the freezer (they contain a freezer gel similar to what's in an ice pack).  The next morning you put the lid on your lunch and it stays chilled!  I already have the Stayfit Lunch To Go's great for your main course.  Last week I purchased the Deluxe Cereal Kit and the Snack Minis.  I love them both!  The cereal kit is great for those mornings when you are running late. Just take your cereal and milk to go!  The Mini containers are perfect for a quick and healthy afternoon snack.  I typically fill mine with fresh fruit, veggies, or nuts.

What's your favorite way to pack a lunch?

I live for Saturdays!

It's hard to believe it's springtime!  It was actually snowing last night as I drove home.  Boo!  Bring on the 70 degree weather, warm spring rains, and sunny skies!

It's so cold that I had to layer my adorable VioletBella
dress with a thermal shirt and leggings!

On a totally random note, look what I won on Ebay!  I adore my vintage 70's macrame owl!  He's such a cutie and so unique.  I remember my Mom had a macrame owl when I was growing up.  I wish she would've hung on to it!  My 70's inspired living room is really coming together piece at at time.  I think that's the best way to decorate.  I love to see how a room evolves over time.  It's so much more satisfying then just buying everything all at once.

Four Legged Friday (Slightly Delayed)!

Introducing Freya!  She was just a little ball of fluff when I took her in.  Very curious and full of energy!

She simply loved "helping" me knit!!!
Yule is her favorite time of year!
She loves toys...especially ones that contain feathers!
Her nickname is "Mistress Freya" because she is such a dominant purrsonality in my home!  Lol.
She's a bit standoffish with me but she adores Tibet!  They love to cuddle.  :)

Little bits of love

My long awaited vintage granny square pillow from Ebay arrived!  I just love pillows, don't you?  Please don't mind my's 70's striped awesomeness is hidden by a sheet!  ;)

My little sewing corner.   I need to get some organizing bins for my fabric and notions.  Can't leave that stuff out or the kitties would have a field day!

My Mom bought me these cute owls at a thrift store and my sister gave me the little retro pictures.

You may not know it, but a bunny's life is hard work!  Fiji has to wake up every morning, eat his breakfast, play with his toys, and do a little cage feng shui!  It's no wonder he's passed out!  :)

Fiji enjoys a cuddle on my lap.
Silly Rabbit!

Did I fall asleep in a field of flowers?'s just my cleaning products!

Yesterday was a great day for cleaning.  I have to be in a "mood" in order to clean.  Trust me, this mood doesn't strike often!  So when it does, I go with it!
I recently started using Mrs. Meyer's cleaning products.  I started with the lavender dish soap.  Love it!   Then I moved on to the honeysuckle countertop spray.  It smells divine.  I used it in the morning, went out for several hours, and when I came home my house still smelled like honeysuckle!

I wanted to show off my adorable canisters A sent me last month.  They totally remind me of my Mom's kitchen back in the early 90's.

When I opened my kitchen curtains, I had a pleasant surprise!  My African Violet had several blooms on it!  :)  I love when my plants are happy!
I also cleaned Fiji's cage.  He's so silly...whenever I clean his cage he immediately has to "rearrange" his things.  :)

What a day!

This morning I noticed that the daffodils and day lillies are starting to come up.  Spring is nearly here!  It makes me so happy to know that the dark days of winter will soon be behind us for another year.

The weather was so beautiful that I felt inspired to do a bit of spring cleaning.  I threw open the windows and let the cool breeze whisk away the mustiness.  I lit a candle and soon the calming scent of honeysuckle filled my home.
Later on, I felt like trying a new recipe.  Here is another winner from Appetite For Reduction! Lettuce Wraps with Hoisin-Mustard Tofu.  So good!

How did you spend your day?

My Reward

A few weeks ago I joined Weight Watchers.  I decided that every week I lose weight I would treat myself.  This was my first reward!  A new tank and cardigan from Old Navy.  I love the purple ruffled tank and the bold flower print on the sweater!  Five and a half pounds so far!  :)

Four Legged Friday

A package came in the mail yesterday from A.  Old fabric scraps were used as packing material and when I saw the fleece hood I knew exactly what to do with it!  Poked a few holes in it and utilized some rings to make a hammock for the rat girls!  Violet absolutely loves it!  She immediately crawled in to explore and ended up staying there all night!

I'm so unbelievably ready for my week long camping trip.  Sadly it's not til the end of June!  Until then I can continue stockpiling my camping goodies and looking at camping eye candy!

I love this beautiful tent!  Doesn't this look like the perfect camping spot?

Another beautiful photo!  I'm hoping I'm lucky enough to get to camp under a tree this year!

As much as I adore wildlife, I sincerely hope I don't wake up to this!  :)

Several years ago I went camping with my sister.  We had a good time despite soooo many things going wrong with our campsite!  The tent collapsed, the shelter collapsed, our camping area flooded, and we had to share our food with hoards of ants!  Lol.  Good times.  ;)

I think that experience is why I'm so gung-ho on buying or borrowing so many camping supplies this year!  My new cabin tent puts my old one (seen above) to shame.  My only concern is I wont be able to set it up!  It seems complicated and I'm not very good putting things together.  I will have to do a practice run I suppose!

I ordered a camp oven yesterday!  So now I will be able to bake cookies, muffins, or even make a  casserole in the great outdoors!

Simple Sunday

I've been carrying my lunch in a plastic grocery bag for far too long! I have storebought lunch bags but they don't really suit my needs. So...I decided to make one that would! It's basically just a simple tote but I lined it with nylon to make it easy to clean. It's big enough to fit my Laptop Lunch Box as well as anything else I want to take! I am aware that the mushrooms are going the wrong way. I didn't have enough fabric to do it up right! I'm a lazy sewer at best!
I came across a recipe for homemade hot pockets on Chow Vegan's blog and I decided to give it a go. I changed the recipe a bit because I didn't have any onion or garlic powder or bread topping. I included basil in my dough instead. For the filling I used pizza sauce, vegan pepperoni, and red pepper flakes.
They were so tasty!!!

I didn't know they sold these at Whole Foods! Did you? ;)
Gabriel loves anything he can crawl into...boxes, bags, even my purse are choice napping spots!

It's a Play-Doh sort of day, don't you think? I loved play-doh when I was a child. My favorite thing to make was Mister Bill. Remember him? Well I would make my version of Mister Bill and then I would proceed to smash him as I cried out "Oh no!" in a high pitched voice. Fun times! :)

I decided to introduce R to the joys of Play-Doh. Wow! He thought it was the best thing ever. He kept making balls and smashing them flat. Of course he tried what every toddler has tried since Play-Doh was first invented: he put it in his mouth! Silly boy. ;)

When It Rains...

Do you ever have one of those days where everything seems like it's just too much? Where all you want to do is crawl into bed and pull the covers up over your head so you don't have to deal? That's how I feel today.
It all started yesterday when someone hit my parked car and completely destroyed my mirror. Then on the way home, the damaged mirror scratched the paint on my door. That left me feeling pretty bad so I thought I'd sleep it off. Sadly today hasn't been much better. The little boy I watch pooped all over the floor and let me tell you that was a blast to clean up. Nasty! Strange how I can change diapers with no problem but when it comes to smashed crap in the carpet, I gag!
There's of course some other stuff going on that I'm not at liberty to share at this time. I'm pretty sure I hurt someone without meaning to by sharing what I was feeling. That makes me feel like such a bad person. Sometimes I think it would just be better to keep things bottled up. That way the only person you have to worry about hurting is yourself. Logically I know that's not true...but sometimes I just feel that way.
So basically I'm in a great big stinking funk and I want to get out of it! I don't like feeling this way (who does?). What do you all do when you are in a bad mood that just wont quit? I'm going to leave you with something that usually helps of my pets in costume!

Lola the Bumblebee....Buzz Buzz!
Tibet as Satan Cat! Meow...You will burn in fiery torment....Meow!

Four Legged Friday

Today I wanted to introduce you to my (not so) little chihuahua named Lola. I got Lola when she was just a tiny little puppy and I had no idea that she'd grow into the ten pound chunk that she is today! Despite being a hefty girl she is quite adorable! Of course, I'm her mom so I'm obligated to say that! What do you think?
