Weekend Love

This weekend I am thankful for beautiful, soft yarn in a myriad of colors. I love knitting and I love that I have so many options when it comes to yarn. :)

I am thankful for precious, silly, playful kittens who love to be held...
I am thankful for full moons...so mysterious and magical!
I am thankful for everything vintage!

Thanksgiving

The family came to my house for Thanksgiving Day this year. I made a vegan meal consisting of Butternut Black Bean Stew, Rolls, Wild Rice, and pumpkin pie. It was tasty and filling without leaving everyone in a food coma!
My sister brought her sweetheart. They are such a cute couple! :)

The kitten loves Mom! I think this is Drusilla but it's hard to tell...that's the trouble with twins! Lol.
Being goofy with my sister...
Mom and Dad: a couple of hippies! :)

Lucky 13

Got my hair cut today at Lucky 13. It's a little bit shorter than I wanted but I'm not too worried about it! It will be easier to care for and shorten my blow dry time in the mornings. :)

Not Your Typical Roll In The Hay

I have a few cats who spend most of their time outdoors (by choice). With the cold weather approaching I wanted to provide some sort of shelter for them. I found this idea online somewhere. Basically take a plastic tote (with lid) and cut a hole in one side. Sand the edges (or take the lazy way out and tape the edges) and fill with hay! Little loves his hideaway!

Great Day

Today I stopped by my favorite vintage store, Boomerang Room. I found so many wonderful deals! I just adore this wrought iron table!
Aluminum Pitcher and 5 cups. I think these are darling! I remember drinking from these at my Grandma's house when I was little.
Festive blue chairs (2).
Mod 70's suitcase.
Drusilla loves it! :)

It's been too long...

I'm not able to get on blogger as much as I would like. It drives me crazy but I don't have internet connection at home. So I have to haul myself to a coffee shop in order to be online. Woe is me! ;)

So I've been complaining about my old rice cooker for years! It's so difficult to clean after you use it...the rice sticks something awful. I finally broke down and bought a new, non-stick rice cooker. It's also smaller (which is great for single people). I love it!
This was a total impulse buy. It's a can colander! I didn't know such a thing existed. In fact, for years I've been thinking how cool it would be to have a colander that fit over my cans for easy, no-mess draining! So yeah...I totally invented this. Hahahaha!
I was craving something sweet last weekend. I tried out a new cookbook called "My Sweet Vegan". This is a marshmallow mud pie! It's very tasty but way too rich for me. I ate 2 tiny pieces and gave a piece away. The rest will go to waste. :(
The twins, Spike and Drusilla, are precious little fluffballs. I can't tell the difference just by looking at this picture! In person you can see that Spike has a tiny patch of gray on his head and Drusilla has a tail deformity (It's knobby on the end...sort of feels like it was broken but it wasn't b/c she's had it since birth). They are playful and full of purrs! I can't remember the last time I met such sweet kittens. :)
I've been wanting one of these signs forever. I finally broke down and bought one on eBay. :)

Vegan Yumminess!

I love making this macaroni salad for summertime picnics! Most people can't even tell that it's made with Veganaise instead of Mayo!
Freshly baked blueberry muffins. I love how the blueberries burst open in your mouth! So much better than the packaged muffin mixes I made before I went vegan. :)
I must say that vegan cupcakes are my weakness! I love making and eating them. I think they are so cute!
It doesn't get any better than this. Homemade English Muffins with strawberry freezer jam. Divine!

These are a few of my favorite things...

I finally broke down and got a GPS for my car. The speedometer in my Neon crapped out so instead of taking it to get fixed I just bought a GPS. It tells me how fast I'm going so it's all good. :)

My cat, Tibet! He's actually my favorite thing ever! He's my love bug!
My new socks from a recent swap package! Nice!

Vegan recipes...

This is one of my favorite vegan sites. It's chock full of great recipes! Trust me, you wont be disappointed!
http://theppk.com/

So what do I eat when I'm hungry and I don't have much time on my hands? I make pasta primavera! I don't follow a recipe for this, I just use whatever veggies I have on hand. My favorite combo though is tomatoes, red and green bell peppers, zucchini, garlic, onion, and green beans. Chop it all up, throw it in a frying pan with some olive oil, and then toss it with the pasta of your choice! Simple and delicious! :)

Oh Happy Day!

Happy World Vegan Day!

Today is just the beginning of a month long vegan awareness campaign. As many of you already know I have been vegetarian since 2001 and recently became vegan last year. Becoming vegetarian was a relatively easy transition for me but I had more difficulty with veganism. I'm not going to lie...it was hard giving up some of my favorite things (candy bars, Tim Hortons Iced Caps, Ben and Jerry's)...but I did it! I've found many great substitutes for my junk food cravings such as the cupcakes from Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World by Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Terry Hope Romero, Starbucks soy frappaccino's, and Turtle Mountain's Purely Decadent coconut milk ice cream. I do have a sweet tooth! ;)

My goal this month is to post daily vegan recipes or links to awesome vegan sites. :) I'd like to start off by offering this link for any of you who are interested in pledging to try a vegan diet for a week.
