So I woke up to a poopy mess. No, I didn't crap the bed. My kitty had a big mess in his butt fur that I had to clean at 5:30 in the morning. NOT. FUN. Bathing a grumpy cat when you are half asleep doesn't bode well for anyone. I've got the scratch marks to prove it. :P

After the bath debacle I stumbled back to bed for a few hours. Woke up and decided I needed a haircut. So off to my fave salon Lucky 13 for a choppy layered cut and brow wax. I find hair salons so relaxing. I don't know if it's the soothing voice of my awesome stylist, Heather or the delicious heat of the hair dryer. Whatever it is I always, always leave feeling ready for a nap.

An hour or so later I left sporting a cute 'do and a new take on my standard blunt cut bangs. Feeling good except for a caffeine withdraw headache I headed to Starbucks for a quick fix. While there I handed over some freshly baked vegan pumpkin bread to my favorite baristas.
Now here I sit...getting my blog fix. :)

Swap-Bot 5 Questions For My Blog Part Two

These questions come from Rhian!

  1. If you could own any mythical creature, what would it be and why?

Definitely a unicorn. I have been fascinated with them since childhood!

  2. What is your least favorite clothing item?

Probably shoes (unless we're talking flip flops...which I adore). Most shoes just feel uncomfortable to me.

  3. What is your favorite tarot deck to use?

I love my Tarot for Cats deck. It's a whimsical deck that can be used to read your cat's cards (hilarious) and can also be used for human readings. The artwork is awesome!

  4. What tattoos do you have or want to get?

I have a small butterfly above my left ankle that I got in my early twenties. I'm thinking about getting one more tattoo on the back of my neck.

  5. What one toy from your childhood do you wish you still had?

I had a little Woodstock stuffed animal that I lost when I was a little girl. I would love to have him back. His loss was devastating to me. :(

Swap-Bot 5 Questions For My Blog

These questions are from J3ss1ca.

Who taught you to knitting and what was your first project?

I wanted to learn for so long but was unable to find a teacher. One summer while I was camping I met a lady in the next tent who knew how to knit and was more than willing to get me started! She gave me some yarn and needles and taught me the knit and purl stitches. I fell in love with knitting! My first actual project was a scarf. Which I made in the middle of summer. Go figure! :)

What is your favorite fruit and veggie?

My favorite fruit is definitely the raspberry. Not the kind you get from the grocery store but the kind you get from the farmers market (or better yet, the kind you pick yourself). I love most all vegetables so it is difficult to pick just one. I think I will go with the veggie I use the most. The carrot!

I noticed that you many hobbies. Which one are you the most passionate about?

Without a doubt, knitting! It's portable and easy. I can knit while chatting on the phone, watching tv, or even standing in line at the store.

Can you name 5 places that you would like to visit?

I've always wanted to visit Stonehenge, Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, the Pyramids, and Scotland.

What is your favorite topic to blog about?

My animals! :) They are so silly and I have tons of pictures of them that I love to share. :)

Rat Girls!

The rat girls got a much needed new cage this week. Being the sucker that I am, I had to buy all the trimmings! They got a pretty pink hammock, an igloo hideout, some chewies, new paper bedding, and an edible tunnel.
Violet loves her new home!
The festive toys were made by Ashley. The girls enjoy playing with them!
Freya enjoys watching the ratties! You can see Violet isn't shy! She enjoys Freya's visits. Rose and Petunia are hiding in the lower left hand corner of the cage.
Petunia and Violet are hairless dumbo rats...that's why they look like wrinkly old ladies! Lol.

Yarn Bomb!

I've been busy yarn bombing! Here are a few of the tags I've put up around my neighborhood. :)

Ahhh....the weekend!

This is the first time Mari and Sadie have been side by side. I was very surprised that they didn't try to harm each other. It's good to know that we can all coexist peacefully. :)

Marigold is not supposed to eat cat or dog food yet she always finds a way! She's sneaky like that. I snapped a quick photo before snatching the dish away (I'm such a meanie, I know).
Typically I'm not a fan of plastic cups however I made an exception for these cuties! Insects on dishes make me happy. I've got my eye on a set of cockroach plates at the craft store!
Silly little trays. I just couldn't pass them up! :)

Day 30: Your favorite song.

Jackson Browne's Running on Empty.

Great song. :)

Twenty Nine

Day 29- in this past month, what have you learned.

1. That people will take advantage of you.

2. That children can be very disrespectful. I used to like school aged I prefer young toddlers (they can't really talk back and have no idea what "rude" is).

3. Irony.

4. That I get a thrill out of yarn bombing. My 'hood is looking so pretty. ;)

5. That I've dropped a dress size...either that or Old Navy has changed their sizing in order to make me feel better about myself.

Twenty Eight

Day 28- a picture of you from last year and now, how have you changed since then?

I think the most noticeable change is my hair. It's much longer and I now have bangs. Other than that I really haven't changed much (except my stress level has gone up)!

Twenty Seven

Day 27- why are you doing this 30 day challenge.

No particular reason I guess. I just enjoy doing little blog challenges! I think they are fun. :)

My New Floor!

After two long years of dealing with cheap linoleum I finally got my lovely wood laminate floor! :)

Work in progress...
Freya, the supervising cat!
All done!

Twenty Six

Day 26- what do you think about your friends.

Ashley is a sweetheart! She is so much fun to talk to and she has the same kind of offbeat sense of humor as me! :) She is my soul sister when it comes to our love of animals!
Channon has been my best friend for sooooo many years! She is full of mischief and whenever I'm around her we always have a blast! I've never known anyone who can make me laugh as much as she can. :)
My sister Kelly is awesome. We have so much in common...from our love of cats, Indian food, and crafts. We don't get to spend as much time together as I would like but when we do it's always fun! :)
Pat is my best guy friend. He's someone that you can count on. He once described himself as a rock...I think it's true. He's also really awesome at home improvement projects (thanks again for the new floor Pat)! :)

Twenty Five

Day 25- what I would find in your bag.

Yarn and knitting needles to pass the time.
My mini laptop...I love how it fits perfectly in my purse!
Hand Sanitizer, my cell phone, cute wallet, silly change purse, Sharpie, Pen, Ponytail Holder, Keys, Notebook and checkbook. Also not pictured: Burt's Beeswax Lip Balm.

Twenty Four

Day 24- a letter to your parents.

Dear Mom and Dad,

I know you did your best raising me and trying to provide a good childhood for me and Kel. I have many pleasant memories! Some of my favorites are when I would come home from school to find that you had rearranged my bedroom! I'm not really sure why that made me so excited. Lol. It must've stuck with me because as an adult I am constantly rearranging furniture in my house. :)
I also remember when we would walk over to the City Park for the Fourth of July. We'd lay down on a blanket and watch the night sky fill with color. It was such a magical experience!

Thank you for everything.

Twenty Three

Day 23- something you crave for a lot.

Day 22- what makes you different from everyone else.

I think my crazy love of cats makes me different from most people. I feel the need to care for every stray that crosses my path! I have many cat friends that live in and around my home as well as others who come strictly for the endless supply of cat food on the porch!

Twenty One

Day 21- a picture of something that makes you happy.

Being in a yarn store where I can run my fingers over all the glorious skeins! I'm a very tactile person so this is pure heaven to me!

Busy Girl

Woo-hoo! 41 followers! I want to encourage those of you who just started following me to leave a comment over on the "Warm and Fuzzy Giveaway" for your chance to win a hand knit scarf made by moi! :)

It has been a very hectic week here. I haven't been able to keep up with my 30 Days of Me challenge but I will remedy that this weekend! I've been struggling to keep up with my knitting however all I've managed to accomplish is a few rows here and there. Oh well, that's better than nothing, right?

What has been occupying your time this week? :)

Day 20- someone you see yourself marrying or being with in the future.

Ok....I'm going to totally cop out on this one because I am in a new relationship and I don't want to jinx it!!! :P

Spoiled kitties...

Ok...granted the first two kitties pictured are typically outside cats...but sometimes they need a little extra love inside the house! Gaberiel is a major cuddle bug! He loves to lay under the covers and drape over the nearest human (meaning me)!

Gideon Freaktoe is a scaredy cat with everyone but me. He's a sweet fluffy cat friend. He earned his nickname "Freaktoe" or "Freaks" due to his extra claws on his front paws. This is known as a polydactyl cat. His paws resemble giant oven mitts!
Miss Camille is an inside kitty. It's a good thing because she's sooo tiny! The vet weighed her at 5 pounds. She's my sweet petite cat. You can't really tell from this photo but she is a beautiful long haired calico. :)

Day 19- nicknames you have and why you have them.

My Mom calls me "Heather Feather". That goes back to when I was a child. :) It's just a nonsense rhyming nickname.

I got teased a lot in grade school. Kids thought it was funny to chant "Heather Feather What's the Weather?" Lame.

My Sister calls me "Ho" (among other not so nice nicknames that I refuse to write here). It's weird and totally indicative of our relationship. We have our own twisted sense of humor that really no one else gets.

Do you have a nickname that you'd like to share?

Warm and Fuzzy Giveaway!

I'm trying to reach 50 followers...a pretty modest goal I think especially since I'm already at 37. When I reach 50 I will be giving away a hand knit scarf! The color will be winner's choice, the pattern will be mine. :) Here are a few of my past creations! To be eligible, you need to follow me and leave a comment below. Thanks!

I made another creation yesterday. This time I took a cream colored button down shirt and combined it with the bottom half of a sundress.

I have four raccoons who visit my porch on a regular basis. This is one of the babies. So cute!

Nature's bounty, straight from my garden. Yum! :)

Day 18- plans/dreams/goals you have.

Short term goals:

1. To get organized! Everything from my purse to my car to my home. :) I'm a messy girl.

2. To sell my knitted goods at the consignment shop.

3. To learn how to knit SOCKS!

4. To get Rosita (my car) worked on. She needs some TLC!

5. To save some money for next year's vacation.

Long term goals:

1. Eventually go back to school. I'd like a second degree.

2. Take a review class so I can attempt the massage boards again.

3. Have a baby!!! *Actually this one could easily go on the short term list as well. I've got baby fever! How many normal women buy baby clothes before they get pregnant?!!

4. Find a really well paying job.

5. Start a no-kill cat rescue. :)

What are your goals?

I've been admiring upcycled dresses on etsy lately, in particular Lucy Magnolia's shop. I decided to try my hand at upcycling. Keep in mind that this is the first time I've touched a sewing machine in years! I raided my closet for items that I no longer wear. I found an Old Navy tank top and a Forever 21 dress. I chopped off the tank under the bust line and cut the bottom off of the dress. I then pieced the two together and tried cinching in the waist a couple of different ways. First I used one of my skinny hand knitted scarfs, which can be seen in the first and last pictures. My favorite though is the oversized belt in the third pic.
I really enjoyed the process and I think I'll try this again soon.

Have you ever upcycled? :)

Day 17- someone you would want to switch lives with for one day and why.
So must of you may argue that a cat is not a "someone" but I beg to diffcr. My cat Tibet is most definitely a very special "someone". If I could switch lives with anyone it would be him! I mean, come on...he has it made. He gets to lounge around all day in the lap of cat luxury. Catnip? He's got it. Furry toy mice? Check. An all hours kitchen staff tending to his every culinary desire? Yes, sir!
